How to Burn One Side of a Grilled Cheese and Leave the Other Side Completely Raw
It can be very difficult to create the perfect grilled cheese, we are not gods. It is also not easy to f up a grilled cheese so badly you’ll wish you made a salad. But we do what we can with the resources we have!
Step 1: Turn on the stove to medium heat and get your pan warm. It’s the wise thing to do.
Step 2: Butter one side of both pieces of your bread. Pick a bread you don’t mind eating when it’s charred to a crisp or cold as the night is long. I love a good rye or sourdough.
Step 3: Assemble your sandwich directly on the pan. Why not?
Step 4: RIGHT AWAY: Use a spatula to lift a corner of the sandwich and see how that thing’s doing.
Step 5: Noticing the butter has just barely melted, turn the heat up all the way. It very well could’ve taken HOURS to cook that way.
Step 6: Here’s where the fun comes in. Forget the grilled cheese! Life is short, what else do you have going on? Just be yourself!
Step 7: Phone a friend, check Instagram, update your resume, look at the mole behind your knee, pluck a single hair from your body part of choice, this won’t affect whatever it was we were doing earlier.
Step 8: Stand in a part of your apartment that you’ve never stood in before, like between the couch and the wall, behind the bathroom door, or just in front of the T.V.
Step 9: Notice this new and exciting part of your apartment has its very own smell that you never took the time to appreciate! Smile! And mean it, you earned this!
Step 10: Wait, what is that smell?
Step 11: Do you smell that?
Step 12: It’s your sandwich! It is badly burnt on one side.
Step 13: Flip the sandwich as fast as you can.
Step 14: Count to one.
Step 15: Remove sandwich from the pan, take the batteries out of your smoke detector and enjoy!
You may have burnt one side but you didn’t burn the other side at all! The raw flavours from the raw side will cancel out the burnt flavours of the burnt side and that’s lunch baby!
