These Large Sculptures of Broken Wedding Bands that I Made Have Nothing to do With My Wife ABANDONING Me at the Aisle, I Just Like the Way They Look
We all love a twist ending. But a twist beginning? To not even let the story start? I think we could have woven a beautiful story together if she didn’t leave me blowing like a sock in the wind at the altar. This is just one of the thoughts that didn’t cross my mind even once while I spent the early hours of my work days slaving over a slab of ceramic clay.
I know how this looks. I’m not an idiot. But before you judge me there are some things you need to know about my large sculpture of two broken wedding bands that I began making on July 23rd, my would-be anniversary.
Firstly, I love the circular shape of them. I love the way they are made of clay. I love that they are rough to the touch, but appear smooth. I love the way clay seems to get lost between the ridges of my fingerprints and under my nails. I love the way she laughs. Again, I LOVE that they are so circular.
I didn’t used to be an art guy, but these days I can’t get enough of my sculpture. Which worries some people. Many of my friends have reached out to see if I’m okay.
Let me assure you. These wedding band sculptures that I’m obsessed with say VERY little of my life post-almost-wedding. Very little. I just looooove circles. Specifically hollowed out circles. Like ones that are like a wedding band, but all smashed up. They are extremely pleasing for me to look at, and I think if you’d give them a chance, they would please you too.
You might like them too, Erin. If you are even reading this. You might like them. They look almost identical to our wedding bands - life imitates art.
I would give the sculpture to you if you liked it. You could just have the whole thing. And your ring back. You could have your ring back as well. It must have slipped off your finger as you exited the church to pee or whatever you were doing.
But you can have it all back.
Plus the sculpture is great for all seasons and holidays as it is NOT tied to the memory of you leaving me with a church full our closest friends and family looking at me like I was a damn fool.
They would be good for Christmas or just a general hallway decoration I think.
Let me know :)
