My Daily Personal Election Process
ME: Welcome to our Daily Personal Election! Today we will be voting to decide just who makes the rules around here! Should we relax? Grind? Find balance? Who knows! On the ballot today we have PAST ME, CURRENT ME and FUTURE ME!
ME: We will let each candidate speak before we get to the voting. Up first, PAST ME. PAST ME, everybody! Put your hands together for her!
PAST ME: *silence*
ME: Oh, we are getting word that PAST ME is, and apparently always will be, unable to attend to the election. Not a great start. But they have sent us a list of goals and aspirations to consider. Very cute. Sure, let’s “consider them”.
ME: So, PAST ME values "working out, meditating, going for walks, eating well, journalling, reaching out to people, and doing the dishes everyday.” Well, isn’t that sweet. Oh they also sent in a screenshot of an “inspirational” instagram infographic, but I don’t feel like reading or relating to that today!
ME: A lot of talk from PAST ME, not a lot of action. But it’s time to hear from our next candidate, one of my personal favourites CURRENT ME. CURRENT ME, how are you doing?
CURRENT ME: Hi hi! Thank you so much for having me! I’m doing great. So here’s the thing - I love PAST ME’s ideas, I really do. They were a dreamer. But I’m here now. And let’s be honest, I’m tired! I’m tired and I think I deserve a rest - and a treat. And that’s my platform.
ME: Round of applause for CURRENT ME, everyone! I am tired so that is a very compelling speech! Time for our final candidate, FUTURE ME:
FUTURE ME: *eerie silence*
ME: Ah drat. That’s right, FUTURE ME is also unable to attend. And have they sent anything for us to read? No? Well alright then - I’m sure we can assume she would have us invest more in our RRSP but we’ll never know for sure. Running with no platform at all - FUTURE ME, give it up for her.
ME: Time to vote!
CURRENT ME: Honestly, can I be honest?
ME: Yeah sure.
CURRENT ME: I don’t really feel like voting.
ME: Okay… can I be honest?
CURRENT ME: Sure.
ME: You’ve already won. You’ve had my vote from the start.
CURRENT ME: Oh amazing - time to relax and slowly simmer some regret what we’ve done here today.
ME: Cheers. See you tomorrow.
